Saturday Aug 26th Little Rock Arkansas – Waynesboro Tennessee 590 km

As usual we were up at 06:00 in hoping that we could enjoy some cooler air in the morning. When we were packing the bikes and ready to take off from Holiday Inn at 07:30 we realized that we were badly delayed. We were all sweaty but once we got going the mesh suits gave a cooling effect for the first couple of miles. After the sweat had dried then the cooling ended as well… We had + 29 C (85 F) already at 09:00.

Our Saturday route:

We took the familiar Interstate 40 East but we had no plans on visiting Memphis in the middle of the day so we headed South on Hwy 49 in order to go around Memphis from the South side. We crossed Mississippi at West Helena and continued East. We crossed Hwy 61 and went on on Hwy 315 towards Sardis Mississippi. From there we took all kinds of even smaller country roads and ended up to Hwy 310 East and the Hwy 7 North until we found Hwy 72 East. We stayed on 72 until Lime Kiln TN and from there we headed Northeast and crossed Tennessee river at Lauderdale.
We were heading for Waynesboro TN as we hoped to find motels there like the friendly gas station attendant at Corinth Mississippi advised although I really had hard time understanding her heavy Southern drawl.
When we finally got there, we could not find a (working) motel in the whole city and finally we found a campground by the river Buffalo that also had some cabins for rent. So we stayed at Paddler’s motel which was actually much better looking from inside than from outside. The room was big, A/C very effective, beds were comfortable, shower worked…what else can you want for $65? Ok WiFi would have been nice, but in those circumstances …maybe not.

Crossing the river Mississippi at west Helena.

Getting cooled off at gas station in Corinth Mississippi

Crossing Tennessee river at Lauderdale Alabama

Same bridge from the other end.
At least in this point Tennessee river seemed much wider than Mississippi 150 miles ago

Finally found accommodation. Exterior was much worse than interior!
